Joanna’s practice includes providing advice in relation to the patentability of new products and processes, drafting and prosecution of Patent applications, advising on IP strategy, providing advice in relation to infringement and validity of Patent rights, and Patent oppositions. She specialises in pharmaceuticals, consumer health products, animal health products, process technology, analytical chemistry, food technology, medical devices, agricultural chemicals as well as other areas of general chemistry and biotechology.
Joanna has significant experience in applying for and providing advice in relation to extensions of patent term, as well as providing advice in relation to regulatory issues and data exclusivity.
Joanna has over 10 years global research, development and commercialisation experience within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the UK, Ireland, Puerto Rico, the US and Australia. She also has considerable experience in regulatory affairs in relation to pharmaceutical, consumer and animal health products both in Australia and overseas.
Joanna graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with first class honours from the University of Swansea in Wales. She was awarded the University Medal as well as numerous other prizes during her studies.
Joanna completed her PhD at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland where her doctoral research involved the design and implementation of process analytical technologies for use in the manufacture of dyes and pesticides.
To register as a Patent Attorney, Joanna completed studies at the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (IPTA) and the University of Technology, Sydney. In 2009, she was awarded the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia Academy Medal.
Joanna joined Halfords IP in 2018, after spending 10 years in the Patent Attorney profession at another leading IP law firm.
Joanna is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), Chartered Chemist and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
