Patent & Trade Mark Attorney
Dan focuses on the protection of his client's Intellectual Property using Patents and Design registrations. His practice includes drafting and prosecution of Patent and Design applications, providing advice in relation to infringement and validity of Patent and Design rights, advising on IP strategy, and providing advice in relation to patentability of new products/processes. He specialises in medical technology, nanotechnology, building and construction technology, and material science.
Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology with honours from the University of New South Wales. This provided him with a broad technical background that allows him to cross conventional divisions between scientific and engineering disciplines. His honours research involved investigating bio-active surface coatings for medical implants. To register as a Patent Attorney, he completed studies at the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (IPTA) and the University of Technology, Sydney.
Dan joined Halfords IP in 2018, after spending 10 years in the Patent Attorney profession at another leading IP firm. During that time he also bolstered his knowledge in the medical field by undertaking studies in anatomy, physiology, and medical science. He has also taken online courses in neural networks and deep learning.
In view of his background, Dan’s experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications and providing other patent related advice in a range of areas including medical devices and surgical instrumentation, nanotechnology devices and nanostructured materials, electro-mechanical devices, building products and materials, and sporting/exercise equipment. Dan has particular experience in ophthalmological devices including intraocular lenses, dialysis equipment and solutions for dialysis treatment of patients, neurological devices and neuromodulation treatment techniques, graphene based technology, nanostructured cellulose materials, massaging/stimulation devices, electromagnetic nerve stimulation devices, surfing technology, modular construction products, and concrete recycling technology.
Dan also has extensive experience in seeking Design registrations for his clients and providing advice in relation to infringement of registered Designs.
Dan is a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ).
