Anthony specialises in the preparation and prosecution of Patent and Design applications for electrical, electronic, telecommunication, electro-mechanical, mining, ICT, and medical device inventions. He has significant experience in providing commercially focussed strategic IP advice, providing patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate advice, validity and infringement opinions, and, conducting Patent Oppositions.
Anthony joined Halfords IP in July 2018 after leaving another specialist IP firm, Davies Collison Cave (DCC), where he was a Partner for more than 20 years, and where he headed up that firm’s Sydney Office Engineering Patents team.
Anthony has significant experience in acting for a variety of clients seeking patent and/or design protection for their products in a wide range of technologies, including sole inventors and start-ups, engineering firms and manufacturing organisations, University and research organisations, and, multi-national corporations. In particular, Anthony has conducted a significant amount of work for Australian-based engineering firms, mining service companies and medical technology entities, assisting these organisations, particularly during the product development phase, in providing commercially focused strategic advice to protect their inventions and innovations in Australia, in the US and Europe, and elsewhere overseas.
Having a background interest in medical technologies and having conducted his university thesis on a digital multi-channel hearing aid, Anthony have developed a particular technical focus on and has acted for a number of clients in the medical devices and medical diagnostic equipment area, including hearing aids, ophthalmic devices, dialysis equipment, etc. Anthony also acted for and managed the patent portfolio of a number of significant overseas corporations in the electrical products area, including for domestic appliances, scientific and medical equipment, and, mining and agricultural machinery.
Anthony is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and, a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
