New Zealand registered designs have an initial term of five (5) years commencing
on the date of application.
To extend the term of registration, a renewal fee must be paid within the initial term.
The first extended term expires on the tenth (10th) anniversary of the filing date of
the application for registration.
Where the application is a divisional application, the first extended term expires on
the tenth (10th) anniversary of the parent filing date, or the filing date of the first
application in the chain of preceding applications.
To extend the term of registration again, a renewal fee must be paid within the first
extended term.
The second extended term expires on the fifteenth (15th) anniversary of the filing date
of the application for registration and no further renewal is possible.
Where the application is a divisional application, the second extended term expires on
the fifteenth (15th) anniversary of the parent filing date, or the filing date of the
first application in the chain of preceding applications.
A six (6) month grace period is provided for the payment of renewal fees, however, a
late fee is payable. |
